FAQ

VTMS is grafted onto the PE backbone via free-radical reaction (peroxide initiator at 200–220°C). The vinyl group undergoes addition to the PE chain; the trimethoxysilyl group then hydrolyses in the presence of moisture (hot water bath or steam) to form silanols that condense with adjacent silanol groups, creating Si–O–Si siloxane crosslinks throughout the PE matrix. This produces a thermoset structure with improved heat resistance (90°C rated vs 70°C for non-crosslinked) and chemical resistance.
