FAQ
Butylated MF resins (BMMF) have longer alkyl chains that improve compatibility with medium- and long-oil alkyds, which often lack sufficient hydrophilicity to dissolve fully alkylated (methoxy) MF resins. BMMF gives broader pot life, better intercoat adhesion, and compatible recoatability in multi-layer systems. The trade-off is slightly higher VOC (n-butanol carrier) and higher cure temperatures vs HMMM types.
