FAQ
TBOT undergoes rapid hydrolysis in the presence of atmospheric moisture, generating Ti–OH species that catalyse the condensation of alkoxysilyl or silanol groups on the silicone polymer backbone. This produces Si–O–Ti–O–Si crosslinks. Optimal TBOT level in RTV-1 sealants is 0.5–2% on silicone polymer; higher levels accelerate gel time but may cause surface skinning before full-depth cure. TBOT is particularly effective in combination with alkylsilicates for ceramic-grade heat-resistant coatings (up to 600°C).
