FAQ
Zinc-based inhibitors (zinc carbamate, zinc molybdate) provide primarily cathodic inhibition: the Zn2+ ions released at corrosion sites deposit as insoluble zinc hydroxide, blocking cathodic oxygen reduction sites. Phosphate inhibitors work at anodic sites, forming iron phosphate passivation layers that suppress iron dissolution. Combining zinc (cathodic) and phosphate (anodic) inhibitors gives synergistic mixed-type protection superior to either alone—this is the basis of zinc phosphate pigments. ZEC-50 is a soluble zinc source that can augment phosphate pigment systems in waterborne formulations where insoluble zinc dust is impractical.
