Surfynol 104 type has zero EO and is nearly water-insoluble, requiring co-solvent addition. Surfynol 420 type adds ~1.3 EO giving moderate water dispersibility while retaining low foam character. The 420 type is preferred in lower-solvent or solvent-free waterborne coatings, while 104 type is preferred when co-solvents (glycol ethers) are already present in the formulation.
