FAQ

ZB-500 acts through two independent mechanisms. For corrosion inhibition, its very low water solubility (≈0.28 g/100 ml at 25°C) enables slow, controlled release of zinc and borate ions into moisture ingressing through a coating film; borate anions suppress cathodic reactions on steel while zinc ions form insoluble barrier salts at anodic sites. For flame retardancy, ZB-500 functions as a synergist with halogen-free systems: at temperatures above 290°C it releases bound water (≈14% LOI), diluting combustible vapours, and the residual glassy zinc borate melt creates a ceramic char layer that reinforces intumescent foam structure.
