FAQ
A dispersant is a low-MW additive (0.5–5% on pigment) that stabilizes broken pigment surfaces by electrostatic or steric repulsion. A grinding resin is a medium-MW film-forming polymer (20–40% on pigment) that both stabilizes and encapsulates pigment particles, forming a composite particle compatible with the let-down system. Grinding resins are used where the concentrated dispersion must be compatible with multiple binder systems (universal colorants for both acrylic and alkyd paints) or where the dispersant alone cannot achieve storage stability at high pigment loading.
