Polysorbate 80 (Tween-80) Sorbitan Oleate Ethoxylate

Span-80 is unethoxylated sorbitan monooleate (HLB 4.3), water-insoluble, and functions as a W/O emulsifier or anti-stat in solventborne systems. Tween-80 is the ethoxylated (20 EO) version of Span-80 (HLB 15), water-soluble, and suitable as an O/W emulsifier in aqueous systems. In coatings, Span-80 is used to stabilize water-in-oil emulsions or as a pigment surface treatment in solventborne inks; Tween-80 is used in waterborne pigment pastes and emulsion stabilization at higher temperature (cloud point >90°C).
