Tolyltriazole TTA (5-Methylbenzotriazole, Copper Metal Inhibitor)

TTA (5-methylbenzotriazole) and BTA (benzotriazole) function by the same mechanism—triazole ring coordination with copper ions—but TTA has a methyl group that increases its hydrophobicity, improving film persistence in wet environments. TTA also has somewhat lower water solubility than BTA, making it better for long-term corrosion protection in water-contact applications. Both are effective at similar dosage levels. TTA is preferred in applications requiring sustained protection (automotive coolant systems, heat exchangers); BTA is preferred where water solubility aids dispersion (metalworking fluids, waterborne coatings).
