Tetrabutyl Titanate TBOT (Titanium Crosslinking Catalyst for Coatings)

TBOT is moisture-sensitive and hydrolyzes readily when exposed to humidity, forming titanium oxide and butanol. Store in sealed containers under dry nitrogen. In formulation, add TBOT as the last component after all other ingredients are thoroughly blended and dry. For waterborne systems, use pre-chelated titanium complexes (PTK, titanium acetylacetonate) instead of TBOT, as TBOT will precipitate immediately. In moisture-cure silicone systems, the controlled hydrolysis of TBOT is the active mechanism—moisture ingress triggers cure. Prevent premature cure by keeping the formulation anhydrous until application.
