FAQ
T-9 (stannous octoate, Sn2+) is a weaker, gel-promoting catalyst that accelerates the urethane (OH+NCO) reaction. It gives a longer pot life and is better for foams and ambient-cure coatings. DBTDL (dibutyltin dilaurate, Sn4+) is a stronger dual catalyst that accelerates both urethane and urea reactions, giving faster hardness development but shorter pot life. In 2K PU coatings, T-9 is preferred when a longer application window is needed; DBTDL when rapid through-cure and hardness are critical. Regulatory note: organotin compounds are under increasing restriction in EU—check current REACH authorization status.
