Will SSC-10 cause intercoat adhesion problems when overprinting or laminating?

At recommended dosages of 0.1–0.5%, SSC-10 is formulated to minimise silicone migration to the surface, which is the primary cause of adhesion failure in overprint varnishes and lamination bonds. Exceeding 1.0% significantly increases migration risk and should be evaluated with adhesion cross-hatch testing before production use.

Can SSC-10 be added directly to the ink at the press or must it be incorporated during manufacture?

Accepted Answer

SSC-10 is supplied as a pre-dispersed compound and can be added at either stage. Press-side addition is common for slip adjustment; stir thoroughly for at least 5 minutes at low shear to ensure even distribution. For best long-term stability and reproducibility, pre-addition during ink manufacture is preferred.
