FAQ
In rubber compounding with silica reinforcement (e.g., tire treads), A-189 acts as a silica-rubber coupling agent. The trimethoxysilyl end condenses with silica surface silanols to anchor the molecule to the filler. The mercapto (SH) group reacts with rubber polymers (natural rubber, SBR, EPDM) during sulfur vulcanization — the SH group participates in the sulfur crosslinking network, chemically bridging the silica particle to the rubber matrix. This dramatically improves silica dispersion, reduces rolling resistance, and increases wet grip — key performance targets in green tyre technology.
