FAQ
PTFE micropowder particles migrate to the surface of the cured coating film where they form a lubricating layer with a very low coefficient of friction (COF typically 0.05–0.10 vs 0.3–0.5 for unmodified films). When a scratching or marring force is applied, the PTFE particles reduce the friction energy transferred to the binder, preventing plastic deformation of the film. This mechanism is physical rather than chemical — PTFE particles do not react with the binder. The small particle size (d50 4–8 µm) is critical for maintaining gloss while providing surface protection; coarser particles reduce gloss significantly.
