FAQ
ITX (isopropylthioxanthone) was flagged in 2005 after migration into food (Tetra Pak packaging) led to EFSA scrutiny. While the EU has not formally banned ITX, food-packaging ink manufacturers have largely replaced it with low-migration alternatives (DETX, high-MW thioxanthone derivatives, polymeric photoinitiators). For non-food-contact offset UV applications, ITX remains widely used for its excellent sensitizing efficiency and good acrylate solubility. Always verify food-contact status with your regulatory team before specifying ITX-containing inks.
