HALS Light Stabilizer Tinuvin 292 Type (Low MW Hindered Amine)

Low-MW HALS like Tinuvin 292 (MW ~509 g/mol) is a liquid, offering excellent compatibility and penetration in thin-film high-gloss coatings such as automotive clearcoats and wood varnishes. It provides fast-acting radical scavenging but has higher extractability/volatility, making it less suitable for outdoor durable films requiring 10+ years performance. High-MW HALS like Tinuvin 770 (MW ~481 g/mol, dimeric) and especially oligomeric HALS (e.g., Tinuvin 152, MW ~3500 g/mol) have much lower extractability and volatility, delivering longer-lasting protection in thick-film and outdoor applications. For automotive OEM clearcoats, low-MW HALS is typically used in combination with a UVA absorber; for agricultural or construction coatings, higher-MW HALS is preferred for durability.
