FAQ

Gravure ink foaming originates from the high-shear agitation of the ink fountain and rapid doctoring of the cylinder. Air entrained during ink transfer creates microbubbles that rupture on the substrate, leaving voids (pitting) or mottled print. Solventborne defoamers for gravure inks must be fast-acting (immediate foam collapse at the anilox interface), compatible with NC/PU/acrylic binders, and not cause wetting defects or printability problems. Typical dosage is 0.1–0.3% on ink; higher addition can cause pin-holes in the print.
