Effective dosage is typically 0.05–0.3% active fluorosurfactant on total formulation weight. Because FWA-100 is supplied as a 1% solution, this translates to 0.5–3.0% addition of the product as supplied. Start at the low end and increase only until the target contact angle on the substrate is achieved; excess fluorosurfactant can destabilise foam control and reduce ink tack.

Does FWA-100 enable wetting of polyolefin substrates without corona pre-treatment?

Accepted Answer

FWA-100 can wet untreated PP and PE films with surface energy below 32 mN/m, achieving contact angles under 10° at recommended dosage. However, for ink adhesion and rub resistance, corona or flame pre-treatment to ≥38 mN/m is still advisable; wetting and adhesion are separate phenomena.

Is FWA-100 compatible with UV-cure chemistry?

Yes. FWA-100 is non-reactive and does not interfere with free-radical or cationic UV cure. It is stable under UV exposure and at typical UV oven temperatures (40–80°C). It has been tested in waterborne UV inkjet and overprint varnish formulations without affecting cure speed or final film hardness.
