FAQ
DMEA (bp 134°C) is the most commonly used tertiary amine neutralizer for waterborne PUD because its boiling point is high enough for stable aqueous dispersion at room temperature but low enough to volatilize during ambient or mild-bake drying. This ensures amine-free films with no alkaline residue that would impair water resistance and hardness. Alternative neutralizers: AMP-95 (bp 165°C, stays in film longer, used for slower film formation); TEA (bp 89°C, may cause excessive foaming and odor); NaOH (non-volatile, creates permanent ion content, reduces water resistance). DMEA is the optimal balance of volatility and basicity.
