Organic Bismuth Catalyst BiCAT 8108 (Tin-Free PU Alternative)

Organic bismuth carboxylate catalysts are the leading tin-free alternative for PU coatings. Advantages: similar cure profile to T-9/DBTDL at slightly higher dosage (0.1–0.5% vs 0.05–0.2% for tin), no SVHC listing, good compatibility with waterborne and solventborne 2K PU systems, no yellowing of white coatings. Limitations: slightly longer pot life than DBTDL (not always a disadvantage), higher cost per unit weight (partially offset by lower required dosage vs T-9). For automotive refinish, furniture, and industrial 2K PU, bismuth catalysts have largely replaced tin in environmentally progressive formulations.
