FAQ
Craters form when a localized area of the wet film has lower surface tension than the surrounding film — typically caused by silicone contamination, oil droplets, dust, or incompatible additive migration. The film flows away from the low-surface-tension spot, leaving a crater. Polyacrylate leveling additives like AC-350 reduce the surface tension of the entire film uniformly and improve surface tension homogeneity, eliminating the local gradients that drive crater formation. Unlike silicone-based leveling agents, polyacrylates do not significantly reduce the overall surface energy of the film, so they do not impair intercoat adhesion.
