FAQ
Molybdate ions (MoO4²⁻) inhibit anodic dissolution of steel by adsorbing onto active corrosion sites (pits, grain boundaries), forming insoluble iron molybdate complexes that block the anodic reaction. Unlike chromate (a strong oxidizer), molybdate requires oxygen to function—it is most effective in aerated environments. It is classified as an anodic inhibitor and should be used at concentrations above a critical minimum (typically 0.1% as MoO4²⁻) to avoid localized pitting acceleration. Used in combination with zinc phosphate or zinc oxide for synergistic broad-spectrum protection.
