FAQ
Anatase TiO2 has a lower refractive index (2.55) than rutile (2.70), resulting in lower hiding power per unit weight. However, anatase offers higher photocatalytic activity (useful for self-cleaning coatings) and a bluer undertone. For most decorative and protective coatings where maximum hiding power and durability are required, rutile is the standard choice. Anatase is specifically used where photocatalytic performance is desired, in fibre and paper whitening, and in ceramic frits where its lower firing temperature conversion assists glaze development.
