Each microcapsule contains a leuco dye, a developer (phenol derivative) and a co-solvent. Below the activation temperature, the dye and developer interact to produce a coloured complex. Above the temperature threshold, the co-solvent melts and disrupts the dye-developer interaction, rendering the system colourless. This process is fully reversible.
