PY 151 provides lightfastness of 7–8 versus 5–6 for PY 74, making it significantly more resistant to UV-induced fading in exterior applications. Its benzimidazolone ring confers additional chemical and heat stability, and it shows excellent resistance to oversprayed baking enamels (200°C). It is the standard choice for OEM automotive refinish yellows and high-durability architectural coatings, though at a higher raw material cost.

Is PY 151 suitable for plastics coloring?

Accepted Answer

Yes. PY 151's heat stability to 200°C makes it compatible with injection-moulded polyolefins (PE, PP) and engineering plastics processed below this temperature. It does not show plate-out in polyolefin matrices and exhibits good resistance to migration. For higher-temperature engineering resins such as PA or ABS processed above 200°C, PY 139 (isoindolinone) should be considered instead.
