FAQ
The four 48-series salts differ only in the metal cation: 48:1 is barium, 48:2 is calcium, 48:3 is strontium, and 48:4 is manganese. The calcium salt (48:2) gives a clean bluish-red / magenta hue and is the most widely used in offset inks. Manganese (48:4) yields a somewhat yellower, more transparent shade and is favoured in gravure. Each salt has slightly different wax resistance, gloss, and rheology characteristics.
