Kaolin Calcined (Water-Washed Grade)

Calcined kaolin's plate-like particle morphology and high oil absorption (50–70 g/100g) create a micro-rough film surface that scatters light, reducing gloss effectively without the bloom or haze issues sometimes seen with synthetic silica matting agents. In flat and matte architectural paints, calcined kaolin can replace 20–40% of silica matting agent on a cost-performance basis while also contributing hardness, scrub resistance, and reduced mud-cracking at high pigment volume concentrations (PVC).
