Isobutyl acetate (IBAC) has a slightly lower boiling point (116–118°C vs 126°C for n-BuAc) and a faster evaporation rate (≈1.4 vs 1.0). It has a pleasant fruity odor and provides similar solvency for acrylic, nitrocellulose, and polyurethane resins. IBAC is preferred in automotive refinish applications where a slightly faster flash-off is desired.
