Mannich bases are condensation products of a phenol, formaldehyde and an amine. The phenolic component provides excellent wetting of moist or slightly oily substrates, and the amine groups react with epoxy even in the presence of surface moisture. This makes MB-50 particularly effective for shop primers applied in humid conditions and for concrete substrates that are difficult to dry completely.

How do I control pot life and exotherm when using MB-50?

Accepted Answer

MB-50 is a fast-reacting hardener. To extend pot life, work in small batches (≤2 kg), keep components cool before mixing (15–20°C), and avoid mixing in containers with high surface-area-to-volume ratios. For thick-section pours above 6 mm, pre-cooling to 10°C or blending with a slower adduct hardener is recommended to control exotherm.
