What silicone product is used for concrete formwork release?
PDMS emulsions at 1–3% active silicone in water are the standard form release agent for concrete. Non-ionic PDMS emulsions (30–60% concentrate) diluted on-site give clean release and minimal surface staining. For vertical or complex forms, slightly higher viscosity PDMS (1,000–5,000 cSt) or silicone/mineral oil blends improve film retention on the form surface.
How does silicone release coating work for rubber molding?
Thin silicone films (0.5–5 μm) applied by spray or wipe to the mold surface migrate to the rubber-mold interface during cure, reducing surface energy. PDMS-based release agents work across a wide temperature range (up to 250°C). For high-volume automated molding, semi-permanent release coatings based on silicone resins give 20–100 release cycles before reapplication.
What is the difference between external and internal mold release agents?
External mold release agents (PDMS emulsions, wax sprays) are applied to the mold surface before each part. Internal mold release agents (fatty acid esters, zinc stearate, PTFE powder) are blended into the compound and migrate to the mold interface during processing. External agents give cleaner release; internal agents improve cycle time in high-volume production.
