PTC-100 contains 1000 ppm Pt by weight. To target a final Pt level of 10 ppm in a 100 g batch, add 1.0 g of PTC-100 (i.e. 1.0 phr). Optimal cure speed is generally achieved at 5–15 ppm Pt in the cured compound; higher loadings above 20 ppm offer diminishing returns and increase cost significantly.

Accepted Answer

Karstedt's catalyst is strongly inhibited by sulfur compounds, phosphines, amines, tin carboxylates, and certain acetylenic alcohols. Even trace contamination (ppm level) from mold-release agents, stabilisers, or residual solvents can cause pot-life extension or complete cure inhibition. Inhibitor-free platinum complexes and inhibitor-screened base polymers are recommended for use with PTC-100.

PTC-100 has a shelf life of 12 months when stored in tightly sealed containers below 25°C, away from light and sources of inhibitors. Do not freeze. Once diluted into Part A of an RTV-2 system, the catalysed component should be used within the supplier-specified pot life, typically 4–24 hours at room temperature depending on vinyl content and inhibitor package.
