FAQ
Zeolites are crystalline aluminosilicate frameworks with ion-exchange sites. Silver ions (Ag⁺) are loaded into these exchange sites during manufacturing. When incorporated into a coating film exposed to moisture, Ag⁺ ions are slowly released by ion exchange with cations in the environment (Na⁺, H⁺, Ca²⁺), providing a sustained, low-level antimicrobial release over months to years. This controlled release mechanism prevents the rapid silver depletion seen with silver salt or silver nanoparticle additives, making SI-500 effective for the service life of the coating.
