FAQ
In SAE-50, methylsiloxane segments are grafted into the acrylic polymer backbone, imparting three complementary performance improvements: (1) Hydrophobicity — water contact angle increases from ~60° (pure acrylic) to >100° (silicone-acrylic), reducing rain-induced dirt absorption and biological growth; (2) UV stability — Si–O–Si backbone absorbs and dissipates UV energy more effectively than carbon chains, extending service life from ~5 years (standard acrylic) to 10–15 years; (3) Thermal stability — silicone segments retain elasticity across a wider temperature range (–40°C to +120°C), reducing thermal stress cracking. The optimal silicone content of 15–25% (SAE-50) provides these benefits without excessive cost increase. Blending at higher silicone concentrations (>30%) creates compatibility issues and reduces early film formation speed.
