FAQ
PTMEG (polytetramethylene ether glycol, also called poly-THF) has a highly regular, symmetric chain structure that allows partial crystallization of the soft segment, providing unique high resilience (>70% rebound). PTMEG-based PU elastomers show excellent abrasion resistance (Taber CS-17 <50 mg per 1000 cycles), superior dynamic fatigue resistance, and exceptional hydrolytic stability—substantially outperforming polyester polyols in wet environments. The primary limitation is cost: PTMEG is 2–3× more expensive than PPG. Applications where PTMEG's properties are indispensable include: industrial roll covers, mining screen liners, marine deck coatings, and the spandex/Lycra fiber industry which consumes the majority of global PTMEG production.
