FAQ
TPPE-80 (TGIC cure) and HAA-cure polyesters are both outdoor-grade systems but differ in crosslinker and film properties. TGIC (triglycidyl isocyanurate) at 6% loading provides tighter crosslink density, giving better chemical resistance (MEK rub >200 cycles) and slightly higher impact strength (80 in-lb direct). HAA (hydroxyalkylamide) at 4% produces similar weathering performance (QUALICOAT Class 1: >1000 h salt spray, >1000 h QUV-B) but releases water vapor during cure causing occasional micro-pinholing on thick films >80 μm. TGIC was challenged on toxicology grounds, prompting TGIC-low (3%) and TGIC-free HAA alternatives. Both TPPE-80 (TGIC) and HAA equivalents pass AAMA 2603 and QUALICOAT requirements; specifier choice often depends on customer preference rather than performance difference.
