Poly(butylene adipate) Diol PBA-2000

PBA-2000 (poly-butylene adipate) provides TPU with significantly better mechanical properties than PPG-2000: tensile strength 40–55 MPa vs 25–35 MPa and tear strength 120–180 kN/m vs 60–90 kN/m. The polyester soft segment also provides better oil and fuel resistance critical for automotive transmission gaskets and hydraulic seals. The 1,4-butanediol chain extender in PBA is identical to the common TPU chain extender, creating a more compatible phase structure that enhances microphase separation and thus higher modulus hard segments. Trade-offs versus polyether polyols include lower hydrolytic stability, slightly higher melt viscosity, and the need for anti-hydrolysis stabilizers (carbodiimide additives) for long-service outdoor applications.
