FAQ

Polycarbonate diols contain carbonate linkages (–O–CO–O–) that are inherently more resistant to hydrolysis than polyester (–CO–O–) at equivalent conditions, retaining mechanical properties after 5000 hours in humidity chambers where polyester-based PU degrades by >30%. Compared to polyether diols, PCD-2000 provides much better UV and oxidative stability because the carbonate group is less susceptible to photo-oxidative chain scission. PU coatings based on PCD-2000 show <5% tensile strength loss after 3000 hours QUV-A vs >40% for PEA-based systems. These properties command a price premium of 3–5× over polyesters, making PCD-2000 economically justified only for high-value applications: luxury automotive interior coatings (scratch-resistant soft-feel), marine topside coatings, and high-end architectural facade coatings.
