NIR-Reflective Cool Roof Pigment CR-850

Solar radiation comprises visible light (400–700 nm, ~46% of energy) and near-infrared (NIR, 700–2500 nm, ~52% of energy). Standard black pigments absorb broadly across both ranges. CR-850 is an engineered complex inorganic mixed-metal oxide pigment designed to absorb in the visible range (appearing dark) while strongly reflecting NIR radiation. Since most of the heating effect of sunlight comes from NIR, CR-850-pigmented coatings maintain an attractive dark appearance while reflecting the majority of the heat-generating solar energy.
