High-Tg Acrylic Resin HA-8040 Wood Sealer

Wood sanding sealers require a Tg well above application temperature (ideally >60°C) to achieve sandability: the film must be hard and brittle enough to be abraded to a smooth powder between coats rather than gumming and clogging the sandpaper. HA-8040 with Tg 70–85°C produces films that sand cleanly with 280–400 grit within 20 minutes of application under normal workshop conditions. At the same time, the high molecular weight and good adhesion to wood ensure the sanded film forms a continuous barrier that reduces grain raise and substrate absorbency. HA-8040 is formulated at 40–50% solids in butyl acetate/ethyl acetate blends; fast-evaporating solvents maintain high Tg characteristics and allow quick recoat intervals.
