FAQ
Dehydration of castor oil converts the ricinoleic acid (non-drying, single unsaturation) to a conjugated dienoic acid with much higher oxidative drying reactivity. DCOA-65 touch-dries in 2–4 hours and hard-dries in 12–18 hours at 25°C with drier packages (Co/Mn/Zr), versus 4–6 hours touch and 18–24 hours hard for linseed oil alkyds of equivalent oil length. DCOA films also show better initial color (Gardner ≤6 vs ≤8 for linseed) and lower tendency to yellow over time, as conjugated DCO chains oxidize more completely. The trade-off is slightly lower film flexibility at full cure due to higher crosslink density. DCOA-65 is the preferred choice where faster production throughput is needed: industrial metal enamel spray lines, coil coating primers, and agricultural/construction equipment OEM plants.
