FAQ
Colloidal silica sol is an aqueous dispersion of discrete amorphous nanoparticles and is used as a surface-treatment agent during toner manufacture (emulsion-aggregation or chemical toner processes) rather than as a dry external additive. Fumed silica, by contrast, is a dry hydrophobic or hydrophilic powder added to finished toner to improve flowability and reduce caking. Colloidal sol provides uniform silica coating on toner particle surfaces during aqueous synthesis, while fumed silica is a post-process external flow conditioner for melt-kneaded toners.
