FAQ

Chlorosulfonated polyethylene (CSPE/Hypalon) achieves excellent resistance to concentrated oxidizing acids (sulfuric >70%, nitric, chromic acid) and strong alkalis that destroy standard epoxy and PU coatings. This resistance stems from the saturated polyethylene backbone (no double bonds available for chemical attack) combined with the electron-withdrawing chlorosulfonyl groups that further reduce reactivity of the chain. CSM-40 cured coatings pass 6-month immersion in 30% H₂SO₄ with <5% tensile loss, and 3-month immersion in 15% NaOH with <3% change. UV resistance is exceptional (similar to EPDM) due to the absence of unsaturated sites for ozone or UV-induced chain scission. Primary applications: electroplating tank linings, acid-storage concrete floors, swimming pool and water treatment reservoir coatings.
