Ceramic thermal barrier coatings like those formulated with CB-200 combine two mechanisms: low thermal conductivity (0.15–0.25 W/m·K, comparable to mineral wool) provided by hollow ceramic microspheres or calcium silicate fillers, and high emissivity / high reflectance of infrared radiation. For hot pipe applications, the coating reduces conductive heat loss through the substrate while also reflecting radiant energy. At 450°C continuous service, the ceramic binder matrix retains adhesion and low conductivity where organic polymer-only coatings would degrade.
