ZnO acts as a Lewis acid that coordinates with polysulfide chain-end thiol groups, lowering the activation energy for oxidative coupling by MnO2. The fine D50 of 0.5 µm maximises reactive surface area, enabling rapid uniform dispersion and a faster cure front compared to standard rubber-grade ZnO at D50 3–5 µm.
