FAQ
Lead dioxide (PbO2) was the historical standard oxidative cure agent for polysulfide sealants but is now restricted under REACH and RoHS due to lead toxicity. MnO2-based hardeners like PH-50 achieve comparable thiol oxidation cure rates without regulated heavy metals. The cure chemistry is the same — MnO2 oxidizes the terminal thiol groups of the liquid polysulfide (LP-2, LP-32) to form disulfide crosslinks — but MnO2 is significantly safer to handle and dispose of.
